Churches are often tempted to use consumer-level equipment in their media systems. Sometimes this can work for a “long” period of time. Unfortunately, there are more cases of failure at the most inconvenient time. Most consumer equipment is not designed to be used as much as professional equipment is. This applies especially to mechanical video players and equipment that may be pushed to its limits (like amplifiers). Some equipment is designed only for temporary/residential use and should not be used full time in a professional/commercial system. This can often be seen in lighting fixtures and video distribution/switching. While it may work, it isn’t worth taking the chance that it won’t when you need it most. Be aware what level of equipment is being designed into your systems, is being purchased, installed and used.
